The hypnotherapist’s oath
Working as a hypnotherapist can bring forward a wide range of challenges, so it is good first to recognize that we are part of a community that aims to provide support. We may see this as a test of our intent when an obstacle arises and, perhaps, may find it challenging to continue. At such times, we need reasons to continue with our intention, and one of the reasons may be an oath.
But let us ask ourselves, what does such an oath represent? Even if we find an explanation that we resonate with, we can still start here by asking what our motivation is. Even if we take it for granted, over time, we may discover the real motives and see whether they are sufficient to make hypnotherapy a lifelong instrument of what we consider to be our mission.
Perhaps our motives are initially for the sole purpose of seeing and solving our own problems. However, it may help us to see how we can help and what our specialties are. We understand that we experience all sorts of changes in our lives, forcing us to change careers. At such times, we need our motivation, as a hypnotherapist, to be really deep. The oath is not just about hypnotherapy; it’s also about our integrity, our true calling, and what lies deep within, and we know that it always drives us not to stop but to keep going. Hypnotherapy has allowed us to see the world through different eyes, to understand how things are different from what we have been able to understand in the past. It has allowed us to see how the mind works, and it provided us with a certain liberating feeling because with knowledge comes freedom. Perhaps it is now a commitment to ourselves to continue to acquire more knowledge and thus achieve greater liberation.
